In Swedish: NE’s historiska person test

In Swedish since the Swedish National Encyclopedia is all in Swedish anyway On their website they have a test on “Which historical person are you” – apparently, I’m Pablo Picasso.

Japp, Nationalencyklopedin erbjöd ett test om vilken historisk person man liknar. Test är ju roligt!

Jag blev Pablo Picasso… alltså, “Kvinnokarl” bland annat… tackar som frågar!

Men jag vill ändå påpeka vilken BRA grej det här är! Tusen resor roligare än puckade facebook-test eller IQ-test som går ut på att lura in tonåringar i SMS scemes.

The promise of a better new year

A lot of people make new year’s resolutions. I don’t! Simply because I always break them anyway… You know, “Promises are made to be broken” and all that.

However, 2 years ago I was in a pretty bad place (nothing horrible, just wishing stuff would be better) and that started a tradition.

I made a mind map of stuff I wanted to do, achieve, see etc during the year. Stuff that came to my mind when thinking about 2008. Looking at the map I could see 3 overall trends – words that summarized my wants and goals for the year. I wrote them down, thought about it for a second and then added a forth word. To remind myself I put a post-it on my wall, with just those 4 words. Other than that, it was business as usual.

Around the end of 2008 I looked at the mind map and graded my success from 1 to 10 on each word. I reached a 33 of 40. After that – OF COURSE I made another mind map for 2009.

And 2009 was a good year, but with a lot of stuff I hadn’t anticipated. Some things better than what I wanted, some things not quite what I expected. This new years I only got a 19 out of 40 – but I’m OK with that, it just shows that I do have to remind myself of my focus during the year

So I’ve made a mind map for 2010. Not as easy this years, since I’m pretty much in a good place! But a must to not loose speed and focus. It’s 3 years since I finished my education, I’m turning 29, I’ll have to decide what to do with my the lease on my apartment, my kid sister turns 18 (!) – let’s just say, this is the year that decides if I will panic about turning 30 or if I will love it!

This year is partially about food

It’s a new year, and with it comes new possibilities and also new wishes. I do have a yearly tradition (3rd time now) that is close to a new year’s promise – but not quite. More on that in another post – I’m just going to jump into the actions that are a result av my yearly tradition!

Baking!

My boyfriend is making dinner tonight – vodka marinaded beef and Tiramisu for dessert. I’m in charge of something to nibble on while drinking sparkling wine. Parmesan crackers it is!

Of course I’m reading a recipe – but as usual, I don’t really follow it! Let’s see how it works out…the expectations are HIGH!

Baking x2

Before Christmas we got a sour dough, for sweet cakes, from a friend. It took forever before I decided to bake the cake itself – and turns out it’s pretty good!

Now I didn’t do what I’m supposed to – give 4 parts of the sour dough away to friends (I tried, believe me, but my friends are scared of anything resembling responsibilities )

Ergo – I’m baking the same cake a second time…

Of course I’m NOT! Instead of pure chocolate, I used M&Ms, and I added cacao as well as Reeses on top. If it turns out to be any good – I’ll post the recipe as well

Sweet potato “patatas bravas” with pesto

In august of 2009 my boyfriend surprised me with a trip to Barcelona. A LOT of thing in that city are brilliant, but ONE thing just blew my mind!

We ended up in this smokey place where cushions and sofa tables were the only available sitting. They served tapas – all of them written (only in Spanish and Catalan) on a big black board. Our friend had to translate the whole thing orally, and boy, was it worth it!

You think, if you’ve seen 1 tapa bar you’ve seen them all?! Oh no – grab your dictionary and head on down to Samsara whenever your in Barcelona!

I had patatas bravas made from sweet potato, and with pesto. It is THE-BEST-TAPA I’ve ever had! So good, I even tried to recreate them once we got home

Oh-my-good, I just can’t get over how GOOD those tapas were!

The others had octopus and watermelon – I didn’t have the nerve to try, but from what I understood it was really good as well. And big shrimps with ham-sauce – doesn’t sound appetizing, but think – Spanish jamon and gambas on the same plate!

Skip lunch and just go with the menu – you will want A LOT of tapas! And the warm chocolate cake dessert!! Believe me…

Dealing with loss online

The first post in this blog could have been a happier one, but it is when life surprises you that you need new ways of expression. To write about this in a blog focused on marketing or books just doesn’t do the trick – sometimes you just need a zone where it’s ok to talk about high and low, ask the stupid questions and just let your emotions run free.

About 20 minutes ago I read a tweet that mostly resembled eulogy. The fact that twitterers pay each other homage is not rare, on the contrary. But it was the first time I saw “RIP” in a tweet!

I was not the only one to be surprised, and several several tweets asked: “What” and “Why”

Turns out a woman was killed in a car crash yesterday. This woman was also a member on Twitter, and she had made around 300 friend on this platform. Around 15 of them expressed their grief and feeling of loss – via Twitter and in a matter of minutes.

The tweets were of course full of RTs, @ mentions of the woman’s name, +1 and other typical twitter characteristics. This is (to my knowledge) the first time a fellow twitterer seizes to exist in this world so it’s only natural that chock gets mixed in with curiosity and the question if you read it correctly.

And after the first wave of questions came a wave of “We miss you and we’re thinking about you”-tweets. And then – then people tweeted “I’m logging out”.

Maybe this is a sign of how our online life works – many of the people twittering are online 24/7 – but now, in a time of sorrow, we turn away from online. Possibly to be with our loved ones, since the realization of the fragility of life hits us in times like these. Or maybe it’s the equivalent of a minute of silence – shutting of your Twitter/computer is today’s way of being quiet and bowing your head in prayer.

With our online life comes a bigger circle of friends, and new ways of acquiring info. I’m afraid this is only one of many chocking news to be delivered via online communities. So lets not forget the rest of our online community, people that actually feel what we feel and that can be a shoulder to lean on – even if it is a digital one…
